Fluency: (see documents at bottom of page for PDF)

Mondays – The adult reads the text modelling fluent reading and noticing sounds/digraphs and tricky words. Discuss meaning/story.
Tuesday – Blend to read, the children work through the text blending and sight reading tricky words.
Wednesday – Children read again. We notice the punctuation and grammar. E.g. noticing the start and end of sentences (capital letters and full stops) *A common misconception is that the end of the line is the end of the sentence so we do lots of work noticing full stops and counting the sentences etc.
Thursday – Read again focusing on expression and developing fluency.
Friday – Final read in the aim of sight reading with fluency.

Other areas of learning:

  • This week our topic focus is what dinosaurs ate and the meaning of carnivore, herbivore and omnivores. Use the attached dinosaur fact files and table to sort the dinosaurs by what they ate. We do not expect you to print these resources (although of course you can if you wish) but use them as an online tool and the table as an example.
  • RE – Noah’s Ark – Use Noah’s Ark PDF to explore and retell special story. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ni1Y_ZHG-es
  • Creative – create your own volcano, you can use whatever resources and techiques you wish. Think about the shape, colours and textures you could use.
  • Music with Mr.Mercer – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oCV5ZMmc7dg
