Y6 Residential Trip to Peat Rigg – Day 1 Diary Blog

The long-awaited Y6 residential trip to Peat Rigg finally began today, and the excitement was almost too much to contain! As the children arrived at school, the air buzzed with chatter, laughter, and a few nervous smiles. Suitcases and rucksacks were carefully packed (some nearly as big as the children themselves!), ready to be loaded onto the coach. After one last wave – and maybe a few teary eyes from parents – the coach doors closed and we set off on our adventure.
Thankfully, the rain was kind enough to stop as we made our way to the North Yorkshire countryside, and by the time we arrived at Peat Rigg, the sun was even making an appearance – a great omen for the days ahead (fingers crossed the weather forecast is wrong for Thursday and it doesn’t rain).

Our first mission on arrival? Rooms! The children were eager to see who they’d be sharing with, and soon enough the sound of laughter and excitement filled the corridors. Then came the ultimate challenge: making the beds. Let’s just say there was a mix of determination, tangled duvets, and lots of teamwork. But every bed was eventually made – more or less!

After working up an appetite, we headed for a much-needed buffet lunch to refuel for the busy afternoon. Once bellies were full, it was time to launch into our first activity of the trip. From climbing Jacob’s ladder to making campfires, from canoeing across the sparkling lake to crawling through caves, everyone threw themselves into the tasks and challenges with energy and enthusiasm. It was brilliant to see the teamwork and encouragement already forming among the groups.

Dinner couldn’t come soon enough after such an action-packed afternoon. The food was a hit, as we took advantage of the evening sun and had an outside BBQ followed by ice-cream and donut dessert – who could ask for more.

As the sun began to set, the evening brought our next adventure: orienteering. Map in hand, groups dashed around the centre testing their navigation and teamwork skills. There were a few wrong turns and a lot of laughs, but everyone supported one another and completed (most of) the challenge, before the call of the vuvuzela beckoned everyone back to base.

Now, as we write this, the lights are out and the building is quiet – a clear sign that our Y6 explorers are fast asleep after a fantastic first day.

Tomorrow promises more fun, adventure, and memories in the making. Fingers crossed the sunshine sticks around!

Stay tuned for Day 2…
