We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children. We want every child to feel safe, valued, supported and able to thrive. We expect all members of our school community to share this commitment.

If the issue can’t wait until the next working day please contact the Children’s Emergency Duty Team on 0113 376 0469 and provide us with as much information as possible. Online Safety

Technology plays an important role in children’s lives and we are committed to helping children learn how to use it safely and responsibly. Our curriculum covers online safety across the school (including visits from D-Side), reflecting how children’s interests and use of technology change as they grow older.

In school, children learn about:

  • Staying safe online
  • Protecting personal information
  • Respectful online behaviour
  • Identifying online risks
  • Reporting concerns

We encourage parents and carers to engage regularly with their children’s online activity and make use of parental controls and privacy settings.

Simple rules for keeping your child safe online

To help keep your child safe online, encourage them to:

  • Ask permission before going online.
  • Use websites, apps and games that you have approved together.
  • Keep personal information private, including their full name, address, school and phone number.
  • Only communicate online with people they know in real life and trust.
  • Check with a trusted adult before opening messages, links or attachments from someone they do not know.
  • Use a nickname rather than their full name when playing games online.
  • Never agree to meet someone they have only met online.
  • Speak to a trusted adult if anything online makes them feel worried, uncomfortable or upset.
  • Remember that not everyone online is who they say they are.
  • Be kind and respectful to others when communicating online.
We know that technology is a valuable part of children’s lives. Our aim is not to stop children using technology, but to help them become safe, responsible and confident digital citizens. We encourage parents and carers to take an active interest in their child’s online activities and to talk regularly about staying safe online.

Jessie and Friends

Jessie & Friends is based on a series of three fun, age-appropriate animations which follow Jessie, Mo and Tia as they view, share and game their way towards a safer future online.

These are useful resources to share with Reception and Key Stage One children.

Play Like Share

This series follows the adventures of Alfie, Ellie and Sam as they form a band and enter their school’s Battle of the Bands contest, taking on the mean but ‘cool’ Popcorn Wizards as they go. The three friends learn that while the internet can help them in pursuit of their goal, they need to use it wisely and safely and that ultimately, doing your best, including others and nurturing genuine friendship is much more important than how popular you are.

Prevent Duty

At Cookridge Holy Trinity, safeguarding children is our highest priority. As part of this responsibility, we are committed to supporting the Government’s Prevent Duty, which aims to protect children and young people from radicalisation and extremism.

We provide a safe environment where pupils are encouraged to:

  • Think critically and ask questions
  • Respect different viewpoints and beliefs
  • Develop resilience and confidence
  • Understand the importance of democracy, tolerance and mutual respect

Staff receive safeguarding training, including training on the Prevent Duty, and are supported to identify and respond appropriately to any concerns.

Operation Encompass

Operation Encompass

Cookridge Holy Trinity is proud to be part of Operation Encompass.

Operation Encompass is a partnership between schools and police which ensures that schools are informed when a child has experienced or been exposed to a domestic abuse incident.

This information is shared confidentially with the school’s safeguarding team before the start of the next school day. This enables us to provide appropriate support, understanding and care for children who may have been affected.

The purpose of Operation Encompass is to ensure that children receive the right support at the right time and that any difficulties they may experience following an incident can be recognised and responded to sensitively.

All information is treated in the strictest confidence and is shared only with staff who need to know in order to support the child.

Operation Encompass Letter

Dear Parents and Carers,
At Cookridge Holy Trinity, we are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children. As part of this commitment, our school is a member of Operation Encompass, a national partnership between schools and police services that supports children who may have been affected by domestic abuse.
Operation Encompass enables the police to notify the school, before the start of the next school day, when a child has been present at, exposed to, or affected by an incident of domestic abuse. This information is shared confidentially and only with trained members of the school’s safeguarding team.
At Cookridge Holy Trinity, members of our safeguarding team have been trained in the Operation Encompass procedures and understand how to use this information sensitively to support children in our care. When we receive a notification, a member of the safeguarding team may check in with the child to ensure they feel safe, supported, and ready to learn. Where appropriate, we may also contact parents or carers to discuss any support that may be helpful.
The Domestic Abuse Act 2021 recognises children who experience the effects of domestic abuse as victims in their own right. Through Operation Encompass, we aim to ensure that children receive the understanding and support they need at the earliest opportunity.
We believe that this partnership helps us provide the best possible care and support for our pupils and families, enabling children to feel safe, valued and ready to thrive in school.
