Peat Rigg Residential – Day 2

After an action-packed first day, the (majority of) children all slept well last night — although many would certainly have preferred a little longer in bed this morning! There were a few slightly blurry-eyed faces and some mild protestation at the early wake-up call as everyone prepared themselves for another jam-packed day of adventure at Peat Rigg.
Fortunately, a hearty breakfast soon helped bring the smiles back. The children tucked into a selection of cereal, toast and full fry-up options for those wanting something extra to fuel the day ahead. With full bellies and renewed energy, it was time to head out for the morning’s activities.
For some groups, the morning involved tackling the tricky test of supporting each other while completing the low-rope obstacle course, while others donned harnesses and put their climbing skills to the test to take on the higher challenge of the high-ropes. All children showed fantastic courage by facing their fears and being willing to give things a go and climb one step further than they thought possible, with many even having a go at the zipline — with plenty of cheers and encouragement from their friends along the way!
Following lunch, the adventures continued. Some children worked together brilliantly while attempting to climb as high as possible on Jacob’s Ladder, demonstrating teamwork, trust and determination. Others took to the lake for canoeing activities, where staying dry proved easier for some than others!
After such an exciting afternoon, and another fantastic meal, the children headed into their evening activities. These sessions further tested their teamwork and resilience through a series of team challenges where communication, perseverance and logical thinking were very much the order of the day.
Once completed, a much-needed evening supper helped replenish energy reserves before everyone returned to their rooms to prepare for the infamous Peat Rigg room inspection! In preparation for departure the following morning, children were asked to clear and tidy their rooms. As teachers made their inspections and graded each room, they were treated to a variety of persuasive guided room tours, including sing-a-longs and dance routines — all with varying levels of success and quality!
By the time lights out finally arrived, many very tired children were fast asleep far more quickly than the previous evening, their heads undoubtedly full of brilliant memories from another fantastic day at Peat Rigg.
