Year 2 Science – identifying and naming common British trees

As part of our plants topic, we had lots of fun investigating and identifying the different trees in our school grounds. We had to observe the leaves, branches, bark, seeds and flowers and compare them to our Woodland Trust ‘Tree ID’ sheets. We found lots of different deciduous and evergreen trees including Oak, Silver Birth, Hawthorn and Holly. We think the most common tree in our school grounds is a Silver Birch. When we returned to our classrooms we continued researching trees on the Woodland Trust App.
