Peat Rigg Residential – Day 1 Afternoon

Day 1 at Peat Rigg has been packed full of excitement, challenge and adventure from start to finish! After arriving and settling in, the children quickly met their Peat Rigg team leaders and headed off in their activity groups ready for the first challenges of the residential. It was fantastic to see everyone already beginning to support one another, build confidence and work together as teams.

Throughout the afternoon, groups took part in a variety of activities designed to test teamwork, resilience and problem-solving skills. Some children headed out onto the lake for canoeing challenges, where teamwork and communication were key, along with a dash of competitive splashing. There were lots of laughs along the way — especially when many had the chance to jump into the water and get even wetter!
Meanwhile, other groups explored the underground tunnels during a caving session.

Working in smaller teams, the children manoeuvred their way through the dark and narrow passageways, showing determination and bravery while encouraging each other every step of the way. Bushcraft activities also proved very popular, with children learning how to safely build and light their own fires — a skill many were very proud to master.
After a busy afternoon of activities, everyone was definitely ready for dinner. The food went down extremely well with everyone working up such healthy appetites!
The evening activity was orienteering, where children put their teamwork and directional skills to the test. Racing around the site to locate checkpoints, and the occasional  pheasant or frog,  brought plenty of excitement and friendly competition, while also encouraging groups to communicate and work together effectively.
Following such an enjoyable, active and supportive first day, the children have finally settled down for the night (eventually!) and are now getting some well-earned rest before another full timetable of adventures tomorrow.
We are all keeping our fingers crossed that the rain holds off!
