Year 6 Peat Rigg Blog Day One

The coach ride was full of the usual excitement and anticipation of a well-deserved Year 6 residential. With the clouds parting and the sun shining, we arrived at Peat Rigg in record time- result!

On arrival we got our belongings and met Ed (one of the instructors) who talked us through the safety and what to expect of our time here. After what felt like hours of talk (it was only a few minutes) we finally found out the moment we had been waiting for- who was in our rooms! The downside of this, we had to make our beds- a shock to the system for some.

After some abstract attempts at bed-making and some top tips from some of the teachers, we’d finally finished the first challenge- onto the next.

We had lunch and got ourselves ready for the next activity- stream walking! The route we took was through the woods next to the centre and down into the stream we went. We had to first create our own rope bridge across using wires and then test our balance to get over it. Most made it, some went with a splash!

We all then got the chance to get into the water and had an exciting journey back to base. A quick warm shower later, it was time for some much needed fuel- lasagne and mac and cheese- yum!

After re-fuelling, it was then time for our final activity of the day. This was all about team-work and map reading: orienteering! The teams worked extremely well together, however, some of us found orientating a map a little tricky- thank goodness for sat-navs!

Orienteering finished, shower 2 completed and into our PJs, it was time for supper. A lovely warm hot chocolate was gulped down with a delicious bun, we were ready to go to our dorms to sleep… well most of us.
